Introduction
It's time once again for AnandTech's Memory and Motherboard price guide.
The basic goal is to provide you with the best deals, and follow price trends
of the listed products. We have selected a leading team of on-line vendors,
and will be tracking their progress on weekly basis. Please note that all vendors
were selected according to their best price offered. Some vendors may ask that
you place a phone-order to make sure that you receive our listed price; others
simply ask that you mention where you found the price (in this case AnandTech).
We have tried to eliminate vendors with low feedback rating, but we do encourage
you to do some research before purchasing any product from this list.
If you encounter any problems with a vendor on our list, please email us, and we will take appropriate action. Remember that we will only list vendors with positive customer feedback. If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to let us know.
Also be sure to check out AnandTech's Hot Deals Forum for even more great memory, motherboard, CPU, video card and other technology buys.
Disclaimer
AnandTech does not endorse any vendor listed in the following price guide. AnandTech does not receive any advertising fees and/or sponsorship from the listed vendors. All views expressed by listed vendors do not reflect the opinions of AnandTech.

This Week
Welcome to the First Edition of AnandTech's Memory and Motherboard Price Guide for the month of May.
Summer has started and just like the weather outside the prices are hot. In our last guide, we pondered how long the "good" prices for memory would last and low and behold prices have dropped this week and in many cases the price changes are quite significant. Many PC2100, PC1600, RDRAM, and a good deal of PC133 modules have dropped anywhere from 10 to 20% in price making these modules quite affordable and upgrading very convenient.
Motherboards usually don't take the plunge in prices as memory sometimes does, but this week a fair amount of Slot-1/Socket-370/Socket-423 and Socket-A motherboards have come down in price. Prices for i850, VIA Pro266, VIA KT133A, AMD 760, and ALi Magik 1-based motherboards have followed the trend of weeks past as prices for a good deal of boards in these categories have dropped.

Memory prices have surprised us once again with this week's guide showing drops for almost every single module we list. As you can see, prices for PC2100 and PC1600 DDR modules have tumbled quite a bit to the point that the cost for Crucial 256MB and 128MB of PC2100 and PC1600 memory costs exactly the same. Not far behind, RDRAM is also on the fall with some massive drops of $64 for 256MB and $39 drop for 128MB. However, RDRAM is prone to taking large price drops one week and then countering with a price hike the next. It all boils down to the supply and demand for these products.
Prices for the PC133 and PC100 bunch have also come down bringing them to the level they were at a few months back when it seemed that the price drops for memory would never end. Most noticeably, 512MB of PC100 ECC has come down a whopping $77 and 256MB PC133 CAS2 has fallen $12. Just like we said back then, since prices are good you might want to consider some of these modules if you're in the market for upgrading or building a new system.

Unlike our last guide, prices for a good deal of Slot-1/Socket-370/Socket-423 motherboards have come down though most are not that significant. Like weeks past, prices for i815E motherboards have remained somewhat stable with prices fluctuating slightly. The VIA Apollo Pro 133A-based boards have yet again remained the same for the most part with the only change being with one of our recommend board from that bunch, the ASUS CUV4X, dropping $6 making it an eye-catcher if you're looking for a budget solution that won't disappoint.
Prices for i850 have come down including our recommended board, the ASUS P4T, which exemplifies ASUS's commitment to quality motherboards which pack stability, overclockability, and sound design into once nice package. As with i850 boards, VIA Pro266-based motherboards have fallen in price which is no surprise as the push is for higher-bandwidth solutions.

A good amount of Socket-A motherboards have fallen in price since our last guide. We've added the ASUS A7V-E motherboard to the list replacing the ASUS A7V which we were not able to locate through any vendors. The A7V-E is based on the VIA KT133E or KT133 "Enhanced" chipset which supports AMD CPUs above 1.2GHz but officially does not have support for a 133MHz DDR FSB although some say it works fine at that level. Additionally it runs a great price of $87 and sports all of ASUS's signature features and quality.
Most KT133A-based boards are on the fall including our recommended Iwill KK266 and the ABIT KT7A which we have added to our recommended list of Socket-A boards as it received a good review. Both boards also come in RAID flavors if you're in the need of setting up an array of hard drives. We've also added the FIC AZ11EA motherboard to our list of KT133A boards.
VIA KM133-based boards are also on the fall including the ASUS A7VI-VM which is still very expensive considering the KM133 platform is intended as a budget solution and alternative to more expensive systems though it turns out the more expensive systems (i.e. KT133) run cheaper. On the other hand, the other three KM133-based boards are better priced though if you're considering this platform, we'd go with the A7VI-VM.
A few of the DDR Socket-A gang of boards have fallen in price with the exception of the MSI K7 Master and ASUS A7A266 which have jumped a bit in price. We've added the Shuttle AK31 VIA KT266 motherboard to the list and so far the VIA KT266-based boards are competitively priced compared to the other DDR solutions available.
